Thanks to a collaboration with Southdowns Orienteers, every child in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 spent an hour learning to orienteer around the school grounds. They were taught how to orient their map using a compass and how to recognise features on the ground from the symbols on the map, before putting it all into practice with an electronically timed challenge race. Many also stayed on after school and were joined by runners from nursery age upwards to compete for the ‘fastest family’ trophy and medals for the quickest time in each year group.
(If you enjoyed the orienteering, see https://www.southdowns-orienteers.org.uk/ for local events and free training organised by Southdowns Orienteers).
